During each war a unidentified soldier is selected on befalf of all the unidentified soldiers lost in the war. The men you see guarding will never leave their post no matter what. During hurricane Donna 78 mile per hour wind hit DC and peak gusts over 90 miles per hour. These soldiers are members of the 3rd Infantry Division Honnor Guard and were given the option of leaving to safety but refused as the tomb is guarded 365 days a year 24 hours a day. They refused to compromise their oath.
